/relax under an umbrella
like you've never seen before//story

When Hudson Pacific Properties wanted to revitalize the Bentall Centre property in downtown Vancouver with new plazas and public artwork, they asked Tangible to consider how a collaboration could lead to creating a new and iconic sense of place.
At the same time, the landscape architects on the project — Hapa Collaborative — was looking to include an umbrella-like structure in the undulating patio decking design they were planning.
The result: Tangible developed a one-of-a-kind umbrella based on the parasol mushroom, (hence the name “Parasol”), with 40 fins and 20 strips of animated LEDs. The set of five nine-foot-tall sculptures provide a beautiful pattern of shade for people to take a break from the sun during the day. Then at night, they take on a whole new life as rich hues of light run down each fin of the umbrella, creating a unique experience for anyone enjoying the patio in the evening.
