/wake up 10,000 fireflies in the forest
//story

The memory of chasing fireflies in the summer as a kid can take you back to being nine years old again, observing a mysterious biological phenomenon with wide-eyed wonder and being captivated by every moment of it. We have always been fascinated by the beauty of bioluminescence and fireflies in particular.
So when Capilano Suspension Bridge Park gave us the opportunity to do an interactive display for their annual Canyon Lights event, we decided to create an experience that mimics that familiar summer feeling of being amidst the beauty of fireflies, only for the wintertime. Each year, 10,000 'firelfly' interactive lights are installed at the park for the holiday season. Each light has an infrared sensor and guests in the park can shine custom-made flashlights around a part of the forest, bringing the fireflies to 'life' as they respond to the flashlights with a fluorescent green colour that slowly fades back to black. In the brisk BC weather, the result is magical.

//how it works

Each year during the holidays, 10,000 ‘firefly’ interactive lights are installed at the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Each light has an infrared sensor and LED component. Guests are invited to shine custom-made flashlights around a part of the forest, bringing the fireflies to ‘life’ as they playfully blink lime-green in response.
