/play with fun characters that light up
//story

There is something magical about watching a child discover a new friend for the first time and seeing how they interact. imsound (I am Sound) is a sound and light installation designed for young kids that lets them explore a new setting with fun light-up characters.
Built in collaboration with Carson Ting (illustrations) and Matt Lockyer, this reactive sound toy was shown over two days at the first Vancouver Maker Faire in June 2011. During the event, hundreds of curious kids, young and old, ran around the array of toys to experiment with how to get the characters to light up.

//how it works

imsound has two modes, reactive and performance. Reactive was driven by an overhead thermal imaging tracking camera that detects body heat and follows movement triggering audio and light patterns. In performance mode, imsound responded like a drum machine with sound and lights controlled manually by Tangible.
